AADDS History

The South Australian Adult ADD support group was originally founded by Sandra Newsom in mid 1993. The reason that Sandra started the group was because she saw a need of adults to be assisted with this disorder which was really thought only to affect children but his was incorrect.

In October 1995 Sandy was no longer able to continue coordinating the group so a committee was formed to continue the good work that Sandy had started. It must also be stated that she was the founder of the state's organisation called PLAD (People Living with Attentional Disorders.) this had now evolved to ADASA. (Attention Disorders Association of South Australia.)

The committee consisted of Christopher von der Borch as chairperson/coordinator Fran Dymond as secretary, Tom Lawlor, Jenny Marr, Colin Tighe. As a newly formed Committee, we needed to change our name which became ADDSIGNA and we became incorporated  by this name in mid 1996.

In June 1999 the group evolved even further and to mark this occasion we elected to change our name to one that more closely reflected the disorder that we are dealing with, and the name is AADDS Inc. (Adult Attention Deficit Disorder Support.) Also at the same time Chris von der Borch stepped down as chairperson and Fran Dymond was elected to this position.
